3 Tips For Using AI For Great Wine Content

By now, I think we’ve all seen the benefits and pitfalls of using AI to create our wine content. Sometimes, it really hits… and sometimes, not so much.

I’ve posted previously about how I tested AI by asking for a long list of descriptions for wines I was promoting. While it returned some flowery tasting notes that seemed accurate, my fact check revealed most of the descriptors were completely made up compared to actual notes on winery websites.

But there is a flipside. AI can be a powerful resource for doing some of the time-consuming, mundane tasks that you still have to slog through. It’s also an incredible place to data mine for information with pointed, thoughtful questions.

Of course, the key here is “pointed and thoughtful.” If you put in lazy questions, you’ll get back mediocre answers.

After fine-tuning my process by testing it out on various elements of my client work, here are some of my favorite ways to harness AI to create great content for wine brands and service providers.

1.) Use it for audience research.

Understanding your audience is the ticket to high-converting content, but many brands don’t have their finger quite on the pulse of what their audience wants. AI can be a great opportunity to dive deeper into your audience insights by aggregating content that's already on the internet for a fuller understanding.

For example, you might ask your chat bot for some ideas on what would make a Gen Z audience interested in your limited-production Zinfandel. Or, explore how a luxury wine audience normally purchases their weekend wine. While the answers are probably not copy-and-paste-worthy, they can give you helpful fuel to power up your content.

2.) Use it for site-specific research.

Remember when I warned about AI delivering totally wrong tasting notes about wines? Well, there’s a caveat.

If you need to research a selection of wines/winemakers/wineries, AI can actually be a great resource for pulling together a lot of information at once. But the key is to explicitly instruct it to reference legitimate wine sites and sources.

So in your prompt, make sure to ask your chat bot to provide links, or you can specify which sites you want it to use. This helps weed out the nonsense and hallucinations — and saves you a ton of time.

3.) Use it for idea-generating.

We’ve all been there. You were on a roll creating posts, blogs, and emails — and suddenly hit a wall when it comes to new ideas.

I’ve found that AI can be a great resource for mining for ideas to get my wheels turning. An important note: I am not saying to flat-out use every AI-generated idea. Instead, try asking your chat bot to give you some questions about your service, product, or audience that will spur helpful content as a response.

For example, what are some questions wine country visitors might have about Paso Robles? What questions might wine lovers have before purchasing your wine for dinner?

Ask your AI to give you 10 different questions for each prompt, and then answer them to start creating great pieces of new content!
