Where Is Your Messaging Gap — and What Is It Costing You?
And the “So What?” test that will change how you talk about your offer
You’ve done all the things: chose your niche, wrote a killer IG bio, picked a pretty website template, and poured your heart into explaining your coaching offer or service.
So why does it feel like no one’s biting?
Why isn’t your inbox filled with inquiries from dream clients who “felt like you were reading their mind”?
Here’s a hard truth (served with love): If your coaching message isn’t landing, it’s probably because of a little thing called a messaging gap. It’s a subtle-but-critical disconnect between what you say and what your audience actually hears, feels, and understands.
What is flat messaging costing you?
You’re probably a better writer than you think. But the problem isn’t your writing — it’s your lens.
Without messaging that connects:
❌ Potential clients feel unsure if you “get” them
❌ Your offer blends in with every other coach in your niche
❌ You miss out on leads who would’ve hired you… if only they understood what made you different
The good news is you don’t need to overhaul your website and brand identity. You just need to close the messaging gap — and that starts with seeing where it shows up.
So, what is the messaging gap?
It’s when your words make sense to you (because you're deep in your own work) but don’t fully translate to the people you're trying to help.
➡️ Your homepage sounds professional… but doesn’t click
➡️ Your Instagram captions get likes… but not leads
➡️ People say “I love your content!” but never book the call
It’s not that your offer is unclear — it’s that your message is too far zoomed out. Too vague. Too focused on what you do and not enough on what they need to hear.
And that’s where the “So What?” test comes in.
The “So What?” Test — your new favorite clarity tool
Here’s how it works:
Take any sentence from your website or social content — especially the ones where you describe what you do — and imagine your dream client responding with:
“Okay… so what?”
Then answer that.
✅ Why does it matter?
✅ Why should they care?
✅ What changes for them if they say YES to working with you?
For example:
“I help high-achieving women reconnect with their purpose.”
Ok, cool. But so what?
Why does that matter? What happens if they don’t reconnect? What becomes possible if they do?
Can you feel that shift now?
The “So What?” test forces you to move from surface-level coaching and business speak to emotionally resonant, results-focused language.
It pushes you to stop describing your process and start speaking to your client’s desire to feel seen, supported, and transformed.
